Physical limitations do not mean limitations on creation, for instance, Hanik Indrawati -Suharto, a couple with visual impairment who lives in Surabaya, East Java, remain loyal by making Braille lettered Quran for the blind.
When SCTV found them at their house, Wednesday (18 / 8), with the help of an old Braille typewriter made in United States , Hanik Indrawati typed letter by letter noble verses of the Quran. Hanik is already very fluent of typing because she has memorized the entire Quran by heart.
The ability to make the Braille Quran started from a desire to be able to take the lessons. Hanik and Suharto decided to school in Islamic Blind Education Institution (Yaptunik). From there they can finally take the lessons and make the Braille Quran.
Braille Quran that they make is complete with the vowel. But the Quran is different from the usual arrangement and the shape of the letter. This Arabic-Literature Braille Quran is not written in Braille Latin but written in Arabic Braille so that it requires the expertise and specialized skills.
Braille Quran in 30 juz is sold at about Rp 1.5 million. However, Hanik also sells Braille Quran 1 juz at RP 65.000. Within a day, Hanik is able to complete approximately 20 pieces. Entering Ramadan, they are flooded with orders of Quran, Yassin and the Prophet, and Asmaul Husna.
