The Ambassador of the United States (US) for Indonesia, Cameron R Hume, asserted that his country was ready to assist the development of education in Indonesia with the funds amounting to 160 million US dollars.
"The support has been signed by President Obama and President Yudhoyono in a meeting in Canada in a few weeks ago," he said, at Surabaya, 1 July 2010, Thursday night.
In the break time in US Independence Day commemoration (Fourth of July) in Surabaya, he said that form of activities in case of the education development would be determined by Indonesia-US Joint Commission.
"Indonesia-US Joint Commission that will formalize the activities, but the principle shape depends on what are prompted by the Indonesian government," he said, accompanied by U.S. Consul General in Surabaya, Carryn McClelland.
Still, he said, education cooperation has actually been running between Indonesia and the U.S., including the teaching program by 20 English teachers from the U.S. on a number of schools in East Java.
"There is also a University of Hasanuddin (Hasanuddin University) in Makassar, which requires cooperation of biological marine education with a university in Los Angeles”, he said.
