The enthusiasm of filtering out the pornographic contents on the Internet is being a hot topic in recent weeks. In fact, there are now a lot of technologies, applications, or tools that can be used to filter out a number of user content that has a negative impact through the virtual domain.
Filtering or blocking negative content can also be done in several methods. Filtering can be done from the user’s laptop or desktop; through local networks in offices, school or internet cafe, or directly from upstream, that’s Internet service providers.
Users can also download the application from Internet. If searched through Google search engine, it will display a series of name of the application or such filtering technology. Call it NetNanny, Cyber Patrol, SurfWatch, CYBERsitter, Naomi Program, and the K9 Web Protection.
Association of Public Internet (Awari) some time ago also initiated the project DNS Newsletter (Newsletter Project), namely a filtering system service based on domain name (domain name system). This service is supported by many parties, not only Internet cafe business, but also the Ministry of Communications and Informatics as well as PT Telkom as a state-owned Internet service provider in Indonesia.
Tools that are specifically owned by DNS Newsletter will filter all types of negative content, such as pornography, gambling, phishing sites (misdirection), and sites that contain malware (malicious software).
Last weekend, Tempo had talked with one of the actuators of control project Newsletter, Irwin Day.
Irwin, who also served as General Chairman Awari, outlines some technology or screening methods that can be done.
"Basically, filtering can be done from anywhere, from just upstream or downstream or upstream and downstream," he said.
